THE STORY
I LOVE this waterfall -  I love how the cascading water looms in this dark alcove cut into the craggy hillside. This contrast was made even more stark when I visited the waterfall in overcast misty weather – classic Iceland. It was in these conditions that I made some painting studies on location which I then used when working on this painting back in the studio.

This waterfall is called Gluggafoss, found in Fljótshlíð, South Iceland. The flowing water has created several tunnels and holes in the soft bedrock - creating windows which you can glimpse the water through as it cascades down!
